“The grand opening of the Carpenter’s Lane Little Free Library in our neighbourhood was a warm and inviting event that brought the community together. Held on a pleasant Sunday morning, the event featured a table of homemade treats, including cookies, scones, muffins, and fruit, along with juice boxes and coffee.
The Carpenter’s Lane Little Free Library was freshly painted purple and decorated with crystal knobs, making it a charming addition to our neighbourhood. The ceremony began with a land acknowledgment by Lauren Weatherhead, followed by thanks to everyone involved, including the Neighbourhood Small Grants Columbia Valley and The Columbia Valley Community Foundation. Lauren Weatherhead, Claire Weatherhead, and Emma Lightfoot cut the ribbon to applause and cheers.
Throughout the morning, neighbours mingled, catching up and getting to know each other better. People added or took books from the library, which still needed a few more to fill up. A range of books, from children’s picture books to novels and non-fiction, quickly found spots on the shelves. Kids eagerly picked their first books, while adults visited and took their turn perusing the new reads on offer.
People in the neighbourhood came and went throughout the morning, and everyone left with smiles, books in their hands, and a renewed appreciation for sharing and reading. The grand opening of the Carpenter’s Lane Little Free Library was a big success, setting the stage for more gatherings and shared moments in the future.”
The Carpenters Lane Little Free Library project received funding through the Neighbourhood Small Grants program in 2024.
