“The Box Lunch Sunday Socials were a lot of fun, and were well attended by a really cool cross section of the community. They were all held at the Groundswell Community Garden. We had elders, young moms with the babes, families, a couple of people who just happened past, members of the LGBTQ community and visits from residents of Columbia House. We had musicians come by the offer their talents, we played games, visited and laughed and there was some intense exploring by the under three attendees. I would say on average we had about 7 people each Sunday, though a couple times there were just a few and at a few there were over a dozen. No food went to waste, even if I didn’t have a specific request from anyone who could manage a lunch, I made sure they were eaten and it was so lovely to be able to just offer lunch to them. The two Sundays we didn’t have as many people I took the lunches to a family that I know struggles with food security and they were so well received.

The Box Lunch Sunday Socials project received funding through the Neighbourhood Small Grants program in 2024.
