Once in a while, you are fortunate enough to have a friend like John Mason.
While embracing a new adventure on Nov. 11, 2017, sadly John passed away at Wickaninnish Beach, in Tofino; Kari, his wife and soulmate, by his side with his young son Shawn nearby.
John was out doing something that he loved, having fun outdoors with his family.
He was the kind of person who inspired many people. John was a character that was larger than life; full of “Johnnie-isms” that kept him smiling and those around him. There are so many stories of how John helped the community over the years without ever asking for anything in return.
John’s friends and family would like to see his passion for life inspire others. With that, we have established a fund that will carry on his memory and passion for the outdoors and his love of the community.
John was a dedicated family man with a love for adventure and community. The goal of the John Mason Memorial Fund, in the spirit of his quest for continued learning, will be to support youth sport and the community.
The John Mason Memorial Fund is in trust with the Columbia Valley Community Foundation, which will collect and manage the fund, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people living in BC’s Columbia Valley.
We know John would be proud to see such a fund.
The money generated from the fund will go to support Columbia Valley organizations such as the Mountain of Hope Society and non-profit youth organizations, including the PMFC (Panorama Mountain Freeride Club).
With a solid foundation in the community, there will be more opportunities to build confidence and a brighter future for young people.
This fund was proudly launched and supported by people like you, who care about community, respect one another and live each day with a zest for life — just like our friend John Mason.
We thank you for your donation in supporting John’s legacy.
