Columbia Basin Alliance for Literacy (CBAL) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote literacy and lifelong learning throughout the Columbia Basin.  Locally in the Columbia Valley there are approximately 18 programs, workshops, and other services offered to adults, seniors, aboriginal groups and families of preschool and school age children.

In 2017, CBAL was successful in obtaining a grant for “Love 2 Learn”. This program supports children’s literacy through age-appropriate crafts, stories and playtime.   

The feedback from participants was positive for students and parents.  A parent was excited to share that she was happy she learned using open-ended questions with her son and said what a huge difference it was making for her son’s conversation skills. 

This grant came from the Ann Tilley Memorial Fund and Fairmont Family Fund.

The Columbia Valley Foundation is located on the unceded shared territory of the Ktunaxa and Secwe̓pemc people, home to the local communities of ʔakisq̓nuk First Nation, Shuswap Band and the chosen home of the Columbia Valley Métis.
